" It reminded me of      having afternoon naps  in the sunroom when I was   a child, wrapped in a feather quilt covered with paisley patterned fabric. Turning the Paisley Lights on for the first time was stunning. It seemed to reflect all those childhood dreams, the magic of stars and the Arabian Nights" ... Ronald

Mandarins, Sheiks and Faraway Places

"These four pieces are about legends and fables that I would read  when I was young. Polynesian Islands, Arabian Nights, Castles and
the most intriguing of all were the ones from the Orient. The spices, perfumes, splendid silks, spells and urns that always seemed to contain hidden secrets or a magic spirit. The form is inspired by Chinese perfume bottles with the lids becoming more elaborate reflecting headdresses and costumes from the stories" ...Ronald

The  first original shapes were to be cast in resin. The crescent shape, as a small pendant and the snail as a light with bristles dotted over its back. As the shapes grew in size and changed in concept, holes were required for illumination and the paisley pattern was eventually developed, delicately cut into the unfired clay wall.

The lamp bases are cast in resin with natural coloured pebbles from orange tones to dark schist and brown pebbles with paua shell fragments reflecting the New Zealand river and ocean environments.

The polypropylene shades are detailed with resin toggles and pendants wrapped with raffia, often with feathers as well as hand drawn tapa patterns.

Resin Lamps
Spiral Light

Initial experimentation in resin casting led to the development of the Spiral Light, still one of the most popular lights in the Chan Andreassend range. The design explores the subtle depth of colour achieved through casting techniques that recreate the sculptural qualities of carving & moulding. Colours range from icy pastels to intense deep red, blue and amber

The Cylinder Lights have a complex mix of translucent and opaque resin. The marbleised effects creates a mystical, smokey light.

Each piece has a  unique quality due to the nature of casting.
