Torso
Sophies Feet
These feet are based on the feet of Ronald & Karen's
daughter Sophie  when she was eight years old.
Two other smaller sized pairs,  named for their son
Lucas and baby niece Monique, complete the series.
The design was included in the
Around our Kitchen Table series

These Torso and Body details forms Chan Andreassend's first products ranges.

The initial body fragments were treated as individual objects and as other pieces were added to the collection they  were able to form a vignette of a face as well as a freize or mural with a number of fragments arranged together.

In all 62 different designs have been sculpted since they were  first released in 1982 . Over 16 000 pieces have been sold in  Design and Home stores making it  one of the more successful collections of handmade objects in New Zealand.

They are still handmade in the original moulds.

With the use of resin production techniques further pieces were developed including  keyrings, magnets, jewellery boxes, paperweights and bookends.

The body continues to be an inspiration , with new ceramic pieces from Bowls and  Lights to jewellery.

Ronald and his father Jim developed their own technique to make paper pulp from recycled newspaper. The result was a lightweight  and strong casting medium perfectly suited to the range of metal leaf and paint finishes. The moulding procedures  incorporated hand moulding techniques from the late 19th century Papier mache industry.
