Almost breathless........ again this time its different Four years of a dragged out nothing are coming to an end. There have been ambitious plans, Environmental Courts, objections, submissions, recession, bankruptcy, receivers, failed tenders and a rather irritating ex Auckland City councillor Graeme Easte who helped drag it on even further by placing endless objections. Its one of the biggest excavation on a building site in NZ ,100 000 cubic metres in the middle of Ponsonby and one of the more noticeable side effects of the recession. I can`t believe my luck after 23 years here, being located across the road from the new developement and thats why............. The proposed ‘Cider building’ will offer 14,000sqm net of supermarket, specialty retail and office space on the Williamson Ave side of the site. The Cider building has been designed by John Sofo and Graeme Scott of ASC Architects. The Vinegar Lane name acknowledges the site’s former life as the DYC Vinegar factory. Created around a small cobbled laneway, the precinct will have a strong architectural focus and feature a private landscaped courtyard. | A number of New Zealand architects were engaged to develop designs for Vinegar Lane based on the rules for the subdivision. Architects included Chris Kelly of Architecture Workshop Wellington, Andrew Patterson of Pattersons, Pete Bossley of Bossley Architects, Athfield Architects, Chris Tate, John Sofo of ASC and Chris Meikle of Woodham Meikle Zhan. The courtyard and streetscape was designed by David Irwin of Isthmus. |
